Writing Everyday #2

Today I slept in, waking up at 15:00. For a large part of my adult life, I suffered from lack of motivation and severe self confidence issues. I would spend months waking up past 14:00 and feeling each day "well there goes another day, it's too late to do anything of significance". Today, thank god, I am in recovery. Sometimes I get asked: "what helped you get better?" and this is a really tough question. Not only are our minds and memories subject to change throughout time, but I believe our memories trick us by design. I think when a person finds him/her-self in an abyss, there isn't a single action, that alone, can save them. It is a mindset of growth and healing (some might use other words) that can help one escape.

Our minds have a lot of trouble with picturing exponential growth, or exponential destruction. A spark can burn down generations of work; a numerically small investment at a young age, can enable someone to retire a millionaire; life can sink to unbelievable lows; a couple can create life, and start generations of kind people.

Not being able to picture the exponential, means we can achieve what is unfathomable to us. I have developed faith in the previous sentence, and to the best of my ability make sure my mindset is one of growth, even if it feels to me unfathomable.

“... everyone believes the worlds biggest lie ... that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate.
...
If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And if you improve upon the present, what comes later will also be better ... Each day in itself, brings with it an eternity.”
