On Building in Public

Some thoughts on why sharing work-in-progress is worth the discomfort.

There's a certain vulnerability to putting something unfinished in public view. You're inviting comparison to a standard you haven't reached yet.

But the alternative — waiting until it's perfect — means waiting forever. Nothing is ever finished in the way that would make you fully comfortable showing it.

The Value of the Draft

A draft shared is a conversation started. Someone reads it and has a thought. Maybe they reach out. Maybe they just continue thinking about it differently. That's already worth something.

Start Before You're Ready

The site you're reading right now is an example of this. It exists, imperfect and incomplete, because existing is better than perfect.
